So the Foo Fighters have a new album. That’s a good thing, I love the Foo Fighters and if you don’t, that’s because you fall into one of three categories; 1) you’re deaf, 2) you like bad music with shitty lyrics or 3) you think they’re too commercial because you think of yourself as either a hardcore MF that doesn’t think they’re angry enough or a hipster doofus that only listens to obscure crap that you can only get on vinyl.
Anyway, I was listen to track off their new CD (yes… I still buy CDs) and came across this subtle verse which I thought was quite amusing yet a little sinister.
“Your heart has never been broken,
Your pride has never been stolen,
Not yet not yet”
Maybe not the most genius lyrics you’ve ever heard but like the premise that whoever Dave Grohl is singing about.. is about to experience heart break and pride theft at some point in time to be determined. Clever. More so than seriously anything you can point out to me in the top whatever charts dominated by whoever the most popular nobody maybe.
This led me to think of some other song lyrics that I’ve come to admire over the past however old I am.
Melancholy… “I’m not like them but I can pretend” Dumb – Nirvana
Pissed Off… “When I’m mad and I get pissed, I grab my pen and write out a list, of all the people that won’t be missed, you’ve made my shitlist” Shitlist – L7
Angry… “Fuck me! I’m all outta enemies” – Spit It Out – Slipknot
Cynical… “Your day has finally come, so wear the hat and do the dance and let the suit keep wearing you. – The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies – Faith No More
Depressing… “Everywhere I look you’re all I see, just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be” Something I Can Never Have – Nine Inch Nails
Paranoid… “I’ve been crawling on my belly, clearing out what could’ve been, I’ve been wallowing in my own chaotic and insecure delusions.” Forty Two And Six – Tool
Now doubt you can find better examples – if any of these have the following artists, please don’t reply to this post… Lady Gaga, Kesh$A, really anyone in the pop charts, Celine Dion etc…
